Kit Magnetseal Magnetic Tape & L Framing Trim (White)
This kit is sold "By The Foot" NOT BY THE INCH. A Window will require enough to go around all 4 sides of the window box.
Start by taking your window measurements top, bottom and sides - for the plastic panel you need. (Which you can obtain locally from any plastics outlet. Look in the Yellow Pages under Plastics). Have them cut your plastic 1/4" or 3/8" thick panel to size. You need to decide whether to fit the flat sheet inside the edge frame of your window or over the face of the frame. We recommend fitting over the frame because it will block out a little more dead air space, which is what makes these types of windows work so well. Only an inch oversize of the opening is needed.
Take your acrylic edge measurements and add them together to order enough steel "Mounting Frame" and our special "peel off adhesive backed" 1" wide Magnetic Tape for the job. To install a 1/4" or 3/8" acrylic (Plexiglas) panel in your window you will need 4 "L" shaped metal trim pieces, and enough magnetic tape to attach around the edges of your acrylic panels. The trim and the tape are sold by the foot, so you only have to buy what you need.

|I recently treated a 3x6 ft window with this kit. THE GOOD: the concept works and the acrylic panel stayed in place, giving improved sound insulation, in my case by trapping a 4 in air gap. The cost of acrylic + magnetseal kit, including taxes was under $200, whereas a similar magnetic window from some company across the US can easily cost around $600 including shipping. THE BAD: the screws provided are too short -- I had to get my own, and I had to drill additional holes to better secure the L-framing. More importantly, the sticky white side of the magnetic tape goes against the acrylic a bit unevenly, trapping small air bubbles. This results in a spotty look from the acrylic side. During the day this is not noticeable when natural light streams through the window. However at night this is very easy to see, when the magnetic tape is illuminated from inside the room. CONCLUSION: I will probably order again, but I will need to buy some white tape to cover up the uneven look of the magnetic strip, by applying the white tape the from the room side. Ideally, this should be included in the kit, providing a nicer finished look. If this were included I would change my review to 4 stars, and if a mullion kit for larger windows existed, I would give it 5 stars.|
